Current studies in this group are focused on three major areas: (1) plasmonics & semiconductor nanophotonics, (2) charge dynamics in nanostructures, and (3) nanoscale photocatalysis. These researches by definition are at the crossroad of materials science, physics, chemistry and electrical engineering. Group members synergistically utilize and develop techniques of optical and electronic characterizations, time-resolved spectroscopy, device fabrications and nanomaterials synthesis to achieve our research goals. The Cao group is particularly interested in clarifying fundamental principles by exploring theoretical modeling/simulations for experiments and observations. As a result, group members may expect to receive multidisciplinary research training in both theory and experiment.
