Carboxyl transfer reactions occur in the nature catalyzed by carboxyl transferases. In the synthetic laboratory, a carboxyl transfer is realizable with assistance of some catalysts.One of the known synthetic methods for carboxyl transfer is Henkel reaction, or sometimes known as Raecke process, involving thermal rearrangement or disproportionation of aromatic carboxylates to more symmetrical aromatic dicarboxylates,carried out in an inert atmosphere between 350 ℃ and 500 ℃ in the presence of catalytic quantities of cadmium or zinc salts |
