DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURAL AND BIOSYSTEMS ENGINEERING, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY Research Assistant Positions – Bioenergy The Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at South Dakota State University (SDSU) is seeking M.S. and PhD students. The programs will involve in biomass thermal chemical conversion and catalytic reforming. Students will develop biomass to syngas and bio-oil and thus to gasoline/diesel processes, and to investigate the effects of synthesis gas and bio-oil quality from biomass gasification and pyrolysis, catalysts, and the reaction conditions on hydrocarbon quality and yield. The applicants should have degree/s in agricultural, biological, chemical engineering, or related areas. Previous experience in biomass gasification and pyrolysis, catalyst preparation and application are desirable but not required. The selected candidates will collaborate with the research team members who have expertise in the fields of biomass pretreatment, fast pyrolysis, gasification, syngas and bio-oil upgrading to biofuels and/or chemicals at SDSU. The research programs offer interdisciplinary research opportunities on biomass bio-chemical or thermalchemical processing for biofuels and/or chemicals. The selected graduate research assistants will be offered research assistantships with tuition and benefits based on qualification and experience.
