Dear Professor ***,

I am writing to apply for a postdoctoral position in your group. I am a PhD student in organic synthesis with Professor *** and have passed the graduation thesis defence. I worked in “***” which have resulted in a few publications, and have continued interest to work on the synthesis of complex natural products.

From attendance of your seminar at *** University in 2004, I have been thirsting for a chance to study further in your group indeed. Although you said you have no position in my contact with you. I want to try again because maybe there is some chance and I have improved myself than before. If you still have no position now, I would like to wait till 2007. It would be a great honor to work for you and I am convinced the postdoctoral experience and the training from you would be very beneficial for my future career.

Whatever, I just wish my work could have a chance to be known by you detailed. Not long ago, I recommend you as an “***” journal reviewer for our manuscript “***”. The reviewers suggested our manuscript would best be published as a full paper.

Attached please find my CV and my research summary. Your favorable consideration will be highly appreciated. If you have any question concerning my application and research, please let me know.

这个坛子里因该有关于cover letter的写法的帖子，俺是新虫估计是好多都看不到了，你自己去查吧。
cover letter具体写法是
第一段，你想申请这个位置，及你是如何知道这个消息的，和简单的自我介绍。
第二段，你为设么对这位置该兴趣。最好从自己的人生规划，爱好兴趣，背景专业等谈
第三段，你为什么适合这个位置。你取得的成绩，具有的能力等具体的东西；你的加盟会对这个组的有设么贡献，对组的发展是如何有利，这些虚的也要写，但不要吹的过火
第三段，你什么时间有空面试和一些客套话
最后结尾。

全文必须是一页完事，全都需要干货，所以别人的例子只能是参考，得根据自己情况写，再找高手润色。这个是适合申请公司，博士后估计也差补了多少。
看情况，2004年你没有留给他深刻的印象，你的主要工作也还没发表，可以考虑缓一缓再写。另外，现在你的心还没静下来，不适合现在面试。还有他据你可能是真，不能吊在这一棵树上。他要一个人来是干活的，不是在培养学生，所以最好不要提the training from you would be.....有能力，可以跟他谈，谈谈对学科理解，前景的展望创造一个工作给自己；如果能力不够，那就去抢一个已有的位置，不要去求，求不来的。

你要是愿意，可以把重写的发一封给俺，给你提提意见，但不作英文修改。其他的忙俺也帮不上，上一篇文章刚刚被毙了，除了自己理解不够和杂志要求太高外，英文太差是一个理由。拖了半年中间还让改了一次，才给这个结果，TNND，要毙早说阿。替人操刀是难啊。
