| Microbial degradation of pesticides in soil is a major route of pesticide dissipation (Ghadiri et al., 1995; Foght et al., 2001; Phillips et al., 2005). However, β-HCH and DDX in the environment are recalcitrant to biodegradate due to at least three factors. Firstly, a negative redox potential was needed for these pesticides biodegradation because of the presence of chlorine substituents on the molecule (Focht and Alexander, 1971; Yang et al., 2010); Secondly, these pesticides have low water solubility which lead to their poor bioavailability in soil (Alexander, 2000); Furtheremore, although these pesticides were widespread used in the environment for more than 50 years, no known microbes have yet evolved to use β-HCH and DDX as a sole carbon and energy source (Foght et al., 2001; Phillips et al., 2005 ). |

| 土壤中杀虫剂的微生物降解是杀虫剂消解的主要方式，但是β-HCH和DDX 在自然条件下不易发生生物降解，导致这种现象发生的原因至少有3个。首先，由于分子上氯取代基的出现，这些杀虫剂的生物降解需要一个还原反应；其次，由于此类杀虫剂具有较低的水溶性所以其在土壤中的生物利用度也很低；最后，尽管这些杀虫剂在环境中被广泛应用长达50多年，但至今没有哪种已知微生物已经进化到可以把β-HCH和DDX作为专门的碳和能量的来源。 |
