Guide for Authors Associated with the International Society of Electrochemistry Electrochemistry Communications - Guide for Authors Please follow these instructions carefully to ensure that the review and publication of your paper is as swift and efficient as possible. These notes may be copied freely. Electrochemistry Communications publishes urgent communications and short papers on all aspects of research in electrochemistry. To ensure the very highest standards, authors must provide a covering letter or e-mail justifying the need for urgent publication when they submit their paper. This will be read by the Editors alongside the paper so as to form a view of whether the paper should be sent for rapid reviewing. The authors of those submissions considered to be scientifically correct but not requiring fast track publication will be offered the opportunity to have their work considered for publication as a Short Communication in the Journal of Electroanalytical Chemistry or Electrochimica Acta. Submission of manuscripts Manuscripts should be restricted to 3000 words or the equivalent space in illustrations and tables. Please use the following formula to determine the length of your paper: Total number of words + 200 x (number of figures + number of tables) <3000. 'Manuscripts exceeding this length will be rejected. Please note that Supporting Information is not accepted by this journal; do not include it in a submission. Submission to this journal proceeds totally on-line via the journal's submission website which can be accessed at http://ees.elsevier.com/elecom. At the submission website you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of the various files. The system automatically converts source files to a single Adobe Acrobat PDF version of the article, which is used in the peer-review process. Please note that even though the manuscript source files are converted to PDF at submission for the review process, these source files are needed for further processing after acceptance. All correspondence, including notification of the Editor's decision and requests for revision, takes place by e-mail and via the Author's homepage, removing the need for a hard-copy paper trail. Journal policy The language of submission is English. The level of English should be suitable to meet publication standards. If the level of English in your paper is deemed unsatisfactory by the reviewers or the Editor, the paper will be rejected regardless of scientific content. We suggest authors consider using a language editing service to improve the English language usage and quality of a paper. A number of language editing companies will provide their services to our authors at competitive rates. For more information, please see http://www.elsevier.com/wps/find ... ors/languageediting Papers are submitted on the understanding that the subject matter has not been previously published and is not being submitted elsewhere. Authors must accept full responsibility for the factual accuracy of the data presented and should obtain any authorization necessary for publication. All papers are sent to two referees who advise the Editor on the matter of acceptance in accordance with the high standards required. Referees' names are not disclosed, but their views are forwarded by the Editor to the authors for consideration. Authors are encouraged to suggest the names, e-mail and postal addresses of suitable referees. Manuscript preparation General requirements: Manuscripts should be restricted to 3000 words or the equivalent space in illustrations and tables. Please use the following formula to determine the length of your paper: Total number of words + 200 x (number of figures + number of tables) < 3000. Manuscripts exceeding this length will be rejected. Pages must be numbered. The corresponding author's full mailing address, plus phone and fax numbers and e-mail address must be included. The manuscript must be compiled in the following order: Title, Authors, Affiliations, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Experimental Results, Discussion, Conclusions, References, Tables, Figures, Schemes, Captions. Title: The title should be brief, specific and rich in informative words; it should not contain any literature references or uncommon abbreviations. Authors and affiliations: Where possible, supply given names, middle initials and family names for complete identification. Use superscript lower case letters to indicate different addresses, which should be as detailed as possible, and must include the country name. The corresponding author should be indicated with an asterisk, and contact details given. Information relating to other authors (e.g. present addresses) should be placed in numbered footnotes. Abstract: Authors must include a short abstract that states briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results and major conclusions. References should not be mentioned in the abstract unless full details are given. Keywords: Please supply five to six keywords that best describe your work. Text: Text should be subdivided in the simplest possible way consistent with clarity. Headings and subheadings should reflect the relative importance of the sections, and all headings should be numbered. Ensure that all tables, figures and schemes are cited in the text in numerical order. Abbreviations should be used consistently throughout the text, and all nonstandard abbreviations should be defined on first usage. The experimental section should be as concise as possible, while containing all the information necessary to guarantee reproducibility. Text files may include equations and tables but not electronic graphics. These should be submitted separately (see 5. Artwork below). References: In the text references should be indicated by Arabic numerals in square brackets which run consecutively through the paper; ensure that all references are cited in the text and vice versa. The reference list should contain only literature references; other information (e.g. experimental details) should be placed either within the body of the text, or as a footnote to the text. Each reference should contain only one literature citation. Authors are expected to check the original source reference for accuracy. In the reference list, periodicals [1], books [2] and multi-author books [3] should be cited in accordance with the following examples. 1. P. Audebert, P. Hapiot, J. Electroanal. Chem. 361 (1993) 177. 2. J. Newman, Electrochemical Systems, 2nd ed., Prentice-Hall, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, 1991. 3. A.R. Hillman, in: R.G. Linford (Ed.), Electrochemical Science and Technology of Polymers, vol. 1, Elsevier, Amsterdam, 1987, Ch.5. References to published proceedings or abstracts of conferences should be given, together with the location and date of the meeting, e.g. 4. B. Miller, Proc. 6th Australian Electrochem. Conf., Geelong, Vic., 19-24 Feb., 1984; J. Electroanal. Chem., 168 (1984) 91. Each reference must be complete, thus the use of ibid., idem., et al.,etc. is not permitted. Articles not yet published should be given as "in press", "submitted for publication" with the name of the journal, or "in preparation". Details of personal communications or unpublished results should be given as a reference, provided appropriate permission has been obtained from the Author(s), e.g. 5. A. Jones, personal communication, 1992. Footnotes: Footnotes should appear at the bottom of the appropriate page and be indicated by superscript numbers: 1, 2, 3 etc. Tables All tables should be cited in the text, and numbered in order of appearance with Arabic numerals. The caption should appear on the line below the table number, e.g. Table 1 This is the table caption All table columns should have a brief explanatory heading and, where appropriate, units of measurement. Vertical lines should not be used. Footnotes to tables should be typed below the table, each on a separate line, and should be referred to by superscript letters. Artwork Figures, schemes and equations must be cited in the text and numbered in order of appearance with Arabic numerals; fixed graphics should be placed at a particular position in the text but not specifically referenced. There is no need to specify reductions for figures; however, figures will generally be reduced in size before printing and any lettering should be sufficiently large (minimum height, 3-5 mm) to remain legible. Captions should not be included as part of the graphic; instead all captions should be supplied at the end of the text. All graphics must be labelled with the figure or scheme number, and the corresponding author's name. Where possible, please also supply graphics in electronic format, Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) or JPEG; charts and graphs (line art) should be 1000 dpi, photographs 300 dpi. min. Graphics and photographs mustNOT be embedded in the text file and should be submitted separately from the text file. Papers not complying with these instructions will be returned to authors for correction. Drawings made in WordPerfect or MS-Word, or embedded in the text file, generally have too low a resolution. Printed high quality hard copies of the figures must be provided in all cases. Photographs: One original photograph should be supplied; please note that photocopies of photographs are not acceptable. Colour: Colour figures may be printed in the journal at no charge to the author, provided that the Editor considers the colour necessary to convey scientific information. Colour figures should be supplied in hard copy format, and if possible also in electronic format as PEG files (minimum 300 dots per inch). Journal conventions Nomenclature: It is strongly preferred that authors follow the recommendations of the IUPAC Manual of Symbols and Terminology for Physico-chemical Quantities and Units, edited by IM Mills, Blackwell, Oxford, 1988. If authors depart from these recommendations, articles may be returned for correction or corrected in the editorial office. In the latter case, no responsibility for errors can be assumed. S.I. units should be used. "Equivalents" and "Normalities" should not be used. Concentration should be denoted by the chemical formula in square brackets, or by lower case c. Units of concentration should be given as mol dm-3, M, mol L-1, etc. Mixtures should be indicated by a plus sign, e.g. Zn + Cu, H2O + CH3OH etc. Interfaces should be indicated by a vertical bar. Copyright guidelines All authors must sign the 'Transfer of Copyright' agreement before the article can be published. This transfer agreement enables Elsevier B.V. to protect the copyrighted material for the authors, but does not relinquish the author's proprietary rights. The copyright transfer covers the exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the article, including reprints, photographic reproductions, microfilm or any other reproductions of similar nature and translations, and includes the right to adapt the article for use in conjunction with computer systems and programs, including reproduction or publication in machine-readable form and incorporation in retrieval systems. Authors are responsible for obtaining from the copyright holder permission to reproduce any figures for which copyright exists. All questions arising after acceptance of a paper, especially those concerning proofs, should be directed to: Elsevier B.V. ELECOM P.O. Box 521 1000 AM Amsterdam The Netherlands Tel:+31 20 485 3217 Fax:+31 20 485 3439 E-mail: elecom@elsevier.nl Proofs All authors will receive proofs by e-mail and are expected to return these with corrections as quickly as possible, normally within 24 hours of receipt. Offprints (E-offprints) The corresponding author, at no cost, will be provided with a PDF file of the article via e-mail. The PDF file is a watermarked version of the published article and includes a cover sheet with the journal cover image and a disclaimer outlining the terms and conditions of use. Additional paper offprints can be ordered by the authors. An order form with prices will be sent to the corresponding author. |
