[交流] 【Discussion】How to talk to your advisor about serious things

Sometimes it can be hard to talk to our advisors, but they can help us succeed in school. Here are some helpful tips to keep in mind.

1.Plan what you want to say ahead of time. Think over what you want to say in advance, and write down the two or three most important points you wnat to talk.
2.Pick a good time to talk. Try to approach them at a time when you know they will be less busy and more able to focus on you. You may evern want to ask if they could talk at a particular time so that you know you will have their attention.

3.Let them know directly that there is something you would like to discuss. To be sure you have their full attention, be direct in your language. Say,'There's something important I want to talk to you about', instead of , 'Hey, when you have a moment, I would like to talk' .

4.Disagree without disrespect. Advisors can feel offended when their views are challenged. Using respectful language and behavior is important. Resist the temptation to use sarcasm, yell or put down your advisors.
