The amide group is potentially a bi-functional electron donor with 2 sp2 ‘lone pairs’ at the oxygen atom and a 2pz2 ‘lone pair’ at the nitrogen atom, and therefore it has two possible electron-donating sites to coordinate with the Gaþ3 cation. Overlap of 2pz orbitals of the oxygen, carbon, and nitrogen atoms in the planar amide group would reduce the electron density on the nitrogen atom, and favor the coordination of the metal ion with the carbonyl oxygen atom。 |
