a puzzle of sweet potato

| I have been tortured by the hard thinking for the good translation of "当官不为民做主，不如回家卖白薯。" for a couple of days. and I find no results on some influencial websites,e.g. google,etc.in english, it might be "you 'd better go home for selling sweet potatoes if you are not a good officials who works for the ordinary people." but i think it is not satisfied answer . please give me more translations. |
