In the present study, this is confirmed by the presence of
bands for protons of CHOH groups (4.4 ppm) and protons of
–CH2OH groups (3.8 ppm). The other side reactions like alcohol
etherification with the epoxide groups or esterification with
the acid groups are less likely to occur as indicated by a proportional
loss of epoxide groups compared to the number of
acid groups determined in similar syntheses
