This multidisciplinary program is funded by the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and studies the distribution and toxicities of airborne PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls). This position involves the synthesis of environmentally relevant PCBs and their hydroxylated metabolites and will involve the development of new synthetic strategies to various PCB metabolites. This position requires a strong background in organic synthesis, excellent communication skills, and the willingness to work within a well-integrated interdisciplinary research team. Salary is commensurate with experience. Dr. Zhang’s lab is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of cell cycle checkpoint and developing therapeutic strategies against human cancers. We are particularly interested in the S phase replication checkpoint. (Molecular Cell, 19, 607-618, 2005; Molecular Cell, 35, 442-453, 2009). The Department has a broad range of research areas from signaling transduction to protein structure. It provides an excellent environment to foster collaborations among laboratories working on different research areas. Self-motivated individuals who have a PhD degree completed within the past three years are encouraged to apply. Strong background in biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology is required. Cleveland is a beautiful city located near Lake Erie, and has four-season weather.
