Similarly, an increased expression was observed for genes encoding proteins involved in fatty acid transport and activation such as solute carrier family 27 (FA transporter) member 1 (SLC27A1) and short-chain acyl-CoA synthetase 2 (ACSS2). The expression of the fatty acid oxidation genes catalase (CAT) and carnitine O-palmitoyltransferase 2 (CPT2) were also induced, whereas, the expression of carnitine O-palmitoyltransferase 1A (CPT1A) was reduced during cell proliferation. Moreover, the expression of fatty acid desaturase 2 (FADS2) and the adipocyte secreted factor leptin (OB, also known as LEP) increased during proliferation. Preadipocyte differentiationwas induced at day 3 of culture. This led to altered expression of a majority of the genes studied. Only long-chain acyl-CoA synthetase 3 (ACSL3), carnitine O-palmitoyltransferase 1B (CPT1B), peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor beta (PPARB), and solute carrier family 27 (FA transporter) member 5 (SLC27A5) did not show any changes in expression during preadipocyte differentiation. |
