Instructions for Authors Copyright Transfer Agreement Aims and Scope. This journal presents communications describing new methods, reagents, and technology pertaining to synthetic organic chemistry with sufficient experimental detail to permit reactions and sequences to be repeated by a chemist reasonably skilled in the art. Submission of Manuscripts. Synthetic Communications receives all manuscript submissions electronically via their Manuscript Central website located at: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/LSYC. Manuscript Central allows for rapid submission of original and revised manuscripts, as well as facilitating the review process and internal communication between authors, editors and reviewers via a web-based platform. For ScholarOne Manuscripts technical support, you may contact them by e-mail or phone support via http://scholarone.com/services/support/. If you have any other requests please contact the journal at SCC@submit.taylorandfrancis.com. Papers are accepted in English only. The preferred format for submitted manuscripts is Microsoft Word for the PC. The file should be clearly labeled with the authors' names, file name, and software program. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been submitted simultaneously for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources and are required to sign an agreement for the transfer of copyright to the publisher. All accepted manuscripts, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. Preparation of Manuscripts. All manuscripts should be typewritten and double-spaced with manuscript pages numbered consecutively throughout the paper. Authors should also supply a file with a shortened version of the title for a running head, not exceeding 50 character spaces, an abstract of approximately 100-150 words, three to six keywords, and the author(s) affiliation and location. A separate file containing the graphical abstract is requested. Articles with no graphical abstract will not be considered for publication. Each submitted article must contain author(s) mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail and fax number (if available). In addition, authors are strongly encouraged to suggest at least two colleagues, who are knowledgeable in the subject matter of their paper, to act as reviewers for his or her article in consideration for publication in Synthetic Communications. References. Articles without complete references will not be considered for publication. Literature referenced should be indicated in the text by consecutive superior Arabic numbers as superscript and in brackets. Listed references should be complete and journal abbreviations should conform to Chemical Abstracts style. Examples: Journal article: [1] Buu-Hoi, N.G.P.H.; Hoan, N.G. Potential nitrogen-heterocycle carcinogens. XII, 9-Ethyl-3-carbazolecarboxaldehyde and its derivatives. J. Org. Chem. 1951, 16, 1327-1332. Book: [2] Kingston, H.M.; Haswell, S.J. Microwave-Enhanced Chemistry: Fundamentals, Sample Preparation and Applications; American Chemical Society: Washington, D.C., 1997. Footnotes. Authors are encouraged to minimize the use of footnotes. Information concerning grant support of research should appear in a separate Acknowledgments section at the end of the article, not in a footnote. Color Reproduction. Color illustrations will be considered for publication; however, the author will be required to bear the full cost involved in color art reproduction. Color art can be purchased for online only reproduction or for print + online reproduction. Color reprints can only be ordered if print þ online reproduction costs are paid. Rates for color art reproduction are: Online Only Reproduction: $225 for the first page of color; $100 per page for the next three pages of color. A custom quote will be provided for articles with more than four pages of color. A maximum charge of $525 applies. Print+Online Reproduction: $900 for the first page of color; $450 per page for the next three pages of color. Art not supplied at a minimum of 300 dpi resolution will not be considered for print. Tables and Figures. Tables and figures should not be embedded in the text, but should be submitted as separate files or on extra sheets in the text. Again, authors are encouraged to use Microsoft Word. Number tables consecutively with roman numerals; a short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. Line art and photographs should be completely labeled and numbered consecutively with arabic numbers. The preferred width of submitted line art is 20 to 23 cm with capital lettering 4mm high, to accommodate reduction to single-column width. Captions should be typed on a separate sheet included in the files that contain the tables and/or figures. Equations and Formulae. Mathematical: Mathematical equations should preferably be typewritten, with subscripts and superscripts clearly shown. It is helpful to identify unusual or ambiguous symbols in the margin when they first occur. To simplify typesetting, please use: (1) the ''exp'' form of complex exponential functions; (2) fractional exponents instead of root signs; and (3) the solidus (=) to simplify fractions, e.g., 3=4, exp x 1=2. Please underline all mathematical symbols to be set italic and put a wavy line juder bold symbols. Other letters not marked will be set in roman type. Chemical: Ring formulae and other complex chemical matter are extremely difficult to typeset. Therefore, supply reproducible artwork for equations containing such chemistry. Long reaction sequences should be designated as ''Schemes'' and treated like figures, i.e., keep artwork in a file separate from the text, indicate in the margin an appropriate position, and supply a separate list of scheme captions. Where necessary, individual chemical formulae can be identified with bold arabic numbers. Chemical equations referred to in the text should be indicated with arabic numbers set over to the right in parentheses. Marking: Where chemistry is straightforward and can be set (e.g., single line formulae), please help the typesetter by distinguishing between e.g., double bonds and equal signs, and single bonds and hyphens, where there is ambiguity. The typesetter finds it extremely difficult to identify which symbols should be set in roman (upright) or italic or bold type, especially where the paper contains both mathematics and chemistry. Therefore, please underline all mathematical symbols to be set italic and put a wavy line under bold symbols. Other letters not marked will be set in roman type. Proofs. Page proofs are sent to the designated author via e-mail. They must be checked carefully and returned within 48 hours of receipt. Reprints. Each corresponding author of an article will receive a PDF file of the article via email. This file is for personal use only and may not be copied and disseminated in any form without prior written permission from Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. |
