德国 University of Freiburg, Dr. Charalampos Pappas 博士招生 (ERC 欧洲研究委员会资金支持) 超分子化学,动态自组装,非平衡态,液液分离,系统化学,多肽化学 ERC-funded PhD Position: Building Chemical Reaction Networks with Structural Elements around Activated Amino Acids Starting date: 01/09/2024 or earliest possible time Project Description Phosphates and phosphate esters play essential roles in various biological functions, including encoding genetic information, regulating signal transduction mechanisms, and providing chemical energy. In particular, biochemical phosphates activate transient assemblies by incorporating structural and recognition elements. Beyond phosphoric anhydrides, other biological fuels like creatine, carbamoyl phosphate, and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotides (NADH/NADPH) drive selective metabolic processes. Recent research demonstrated that amino acyl phosphate esters can covalently bind to substrates, influencing structures in assembly processes. The structural elements around activated moieties encode properties in transient structures. Project Aims: Synthesize short peptide sequences of aminoacyl phosphate esters. Achieve selection in mixtures containing different types of activated amino acids. Characterize these systems in terms of composition, nanoscale architecture, and supramolecular interactions. The project will explore the structural behavior of aminoacyl phosphate esters by varying amino acid side chains, N-terminus sequences, and phosphate esters. These variations will direct different pathways for forming and destroying assemblies, impacting phosphate-driven supramolecular systems chemistry. Candidate Profile We seek a highly motivated PhD candidate with interdisciplinary competences ranging from organic and analytical chemistry to supramolecular and systems chemistry. Requirements: Master’s degree with outstanding grades in chemistry, polymer science, or functional materials. Strong willingness to work interdisciplinarily. Previous experience in solid and solution phase peptide synthesis, dynamic covalent chemistry, or spectroscopic techniques is appreciated but not required. Strong competences in scientific presentations and writing (English). Team skills for a creative, productive, and dynamic research team.
