You will utilize reaction kinetics and spectroscopic methods to understand the catalytic mechanism, guiding development of next-generation catalysts. In addition to earning a degree in Natural Resources (default) or other majors (dependent on PI¡¯s joint appointment), you will have the opportunities to: Access facilities at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) as a research assistant Routinely use synchrotron radiation sources in the USA, Switzerland, and France Publish in high-impact journals and present at international conferences Collaborate with diverse researchers What you need BS/MS in Natural Resources, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields (MS preferred) Interested in heterogeneous catalysis, operando spectroscopy, and reaction kinetics Strong English skills: TOFEL ¡Ý 80 or IELTS ¡Ý 6.5 Optimistic and cheerful, enjoying life Interested candidates should send their CV and a one-page research experience and interest statement to utzhangzihao@gmail.com. About Dr. Zihao Zhang Zihao is an incoming assistant professor at UTK. He received his B.S. from Shaanxi University of Science & Technology (2014) and completed his PhD training at Zhejiang University (2014-2017) and UTK (2018-2019). Following his PhD, he has been a postdoctoral fellow at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (2019-2021), Paul Scherrer Institute (2021-2023), and ETH Zurich (2024). Zihao has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers in the heterogeneous catalysis field, with 30 as first author in prestigious journals such as Nat. Commun., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., J. Am. Chem. Soc., ACS Catal., and others. |
