The address is as follows: Jingyi Hotel No. 9 Dazhongsi East Road Haidian District, Beijing 100098 Tel: +86-010-62165588, Fax: +86-010-82125309 Web: http://www.jingyihotel.com/ Official Language The official language of AsCA'09 will be English. We regret that simultaneous interpretation will not be provided. Invited Speakers (secured so far) Plenary Lectures Ted Baker: Celebrating crystallography? Hongkun Park: Capturing light and poking cells with nanowires Yoshinori Fujiyoshi: Structural physiology based on electron crystallography Keynote Lectures Joel Sussman: Proteopedia - A scientific "Wiki" bridging the rift between 3D structure and function of biomacromolecules David Owen: Cargo recognition during clathrin-coated vesicle formation Matthew Rosseinsky: Reactivity and flexibility in metal-organic frameworks: amino-acid based and post-synthetically functionalised materials Thomas Mak: Crystalline silver(I) complexes containing all-carbon and carbon-rich anionic ligands Workshops Three workshops will be held on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, in the conference hotel. Pre-registration is mandatory and should be indicated on your registration form. These workshops are listed below. WK01: Macromolecular crystallization, data collection and data processing techniques. The workshop will cover both fundamental theories and hands-on demonstrations on crystallization, crystallization observation/analysis, data collection and data processing. WK02: Direct-method SAD phasing and dual-space model completion. Lecture and hands-on practice on the program OASIS in phasing protein diffraction data. Participants are requested to bring with them their Linux or MAC lap-top computers for hands-on practice of OASIS. By Fan Hai-fu, Gu Yuan-xin & Zhang Tao, Institute of Physics, CAS, China. URL: http://cryst.iphy.ac.cn/. WK03: Publication of Small Molecule Structures in IUCr Journals. The workshop will cover all aspects of publication of small molecule structures and will be particularly directed towards publication in Acta Cryst. C & E. Differences in emphasis between the two Journals will be explained as will the automated processes for submission of articles to the Journals. Information will also be given on software to aid the preparation of the CIF files which form the basis of publication of crystallographic information in most journals. Participants are also encouraged to bring structures that they may wish to publish with them on lap-top computers. There will be time, both at the workshop and during the AsCA'09 meeting itself for workshop organisers to advise authors on preparing articles to report their structures. Poster Presentation Posters are a visual and concise means of presenting one's work in progress or an overview of some subjects. Please note that it will be regarded as an important element of AsCA'09 and all participants are highly encouraged to attend poster presentations during the conference. The size for each poster will be 90 cm wide by 120 cm high. Poster boards will be numbered according to the same numbering scheme in the abstract book. The poster presentations will be displayed throughout the duration of the conference. During the designated poster sessions, the presenters are requested to remain in front of their poster boards to meet with other attendees. Preliminary Timetable MS: Microsymposia, Hall A: Structural Biology; Hall B: Chemical crystallography (structure and properties); Hall C: Specialised crystallographic techniques |
