To improve the therapeutic effect of small molecule drugs, it is important to enhance the efficiency of targeted and controlled drug delivery. Various kinds of nanomaterials have been developed recently to investigate their characteristics and applications in drug delivery. The efficiency of drug delivery has been significantly improved by the wide use of lipid-based nanomaterials, inorganic or organic nanoparticle-based nanomaterials, polymer-based nanomaterials, hydrogel-based nanomaterials and biomimetic nanomaterials. During the investigation, the physical, chemical and catalytic property has an important effect on the efficiency of drug delivery. Therefore, it is important to reveal these factors on the efficiency of drug delivery. This Research Topic focuses on the structure, function and mechanisms of nanomaterials in the application of drug delivery, and it is devoted to the dissemination of high-quality original research articles or comprehensive reviews on cutting-edge developments in this interdisciplinary field.
