The Research Scientist will work on an industry research project to develop an intelligent robot for our industry partner. UTS Shenzhen has a very strong team in robotics research and a growing number of industry projects. The Research Scientist is expected to contribute to further strengthen the research capability and these relationships. Detailed Description Established in 2019, UTS Shenzhen is a research institute owned by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). UTS Shenzhen partners with industry in Shenzhen and across China to develop and deliver cutting edge technology solutions to meet industry demand. UTS Shenzhen seeks to appoint a Research Scientist with expertise in robot planning and control, or related fields; and experience in developing intelligent robotic software for industry applications, to further strengthen and expand UTS Shenzhen research. The position will be based mainly at UTS Research and Innovation Institute in Shenzhen. As a member of UTS Shenzhen, you will be responsible for helping to achieve the UTS vision of becoming a leading public university of technology recognised for our global impact. Responsibilities: The Research Scientist will contribute to research within UTS Shenzhen, in particular: Conduct excellent and high impact research in the fields of robot planning, control or the related fields Be responsible for meeting milestones Meet the review and assessment requirements of the project Liaise with industry partners and assist with reporting Develop collaborative research internally with colleagues within UTS Shenzhen, and externally with researchers from the industry partner or from other universities Contribute as a team-player to the activities of the Institute Assist the project¡¯s Chief Investigators (CIs) to manage the research project About you (Key Selection Criteria) PhD in robotics or computer vision Knowledge of robot planning and control techniques Demonstrated research and expertise in related research topics Ability to work independently and in a team, and to engage with stakeholders Ability to write papers and industry reports Previous experience in design and implementation robotic systems Experience with one or more general purpose programming languages (C++, Python, Matlab) Experience in using standard open-source robotics related libraries such as PCL, OpenCV and ROS Working proficiency (reading, writing and speaking) in both English and Mandarin Chinese Remuneration The remuneration depends on the appointment level based on the experience. Research Scientist: This position is full-time (1.0 FTE) and appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 12 months. Location The location will be mainly based in Shenzhen, and will need to travel to Shanghai and other cities in China for industry partner collaborations, experiments, system integration and site trails.
