Chloroplast genetic engineering has many advantages compared with nuclear genetic enginering, especially site-specific introduction of foreign genes avoiding gene siliency and position effect which made explore the regulation and mechanism of chloroplast genes`expression in viro available. Chloroplast genetic engineering also can identify the structure and function of the chloroplast genome by reverse genetics or improve the photosynthesis efficiency.
