The concentration of p,p′-DDT in the treatment with the addition of 0.5% Fe0, 2% Fe0 and 5% Fe0 decreased by 69%, 73% and 80%, respectively, and the concentration of o,p′-DDT in the treatment with the addition of 0.5% Fe0, 2% Fe0 and 5% Fe0 decreased by 80%, 88% and 96%, respectively, after 40 days incubation. It is evident that p,p′-DDT and o,p′-DDT responded intensively to zero-valent iron and the more amount of Fe0, the higher the percentage degradation of p,p′-DDT and o,p′-DDT is, during the first 20days. The differences of decrease rate between different treatments were apparent, which could be due to the effect of zero-valent iron (Fe0), as many literatures have reported (Johnson et al., 1996; Chen et al., 2001; Dombek et al., 2001; Lee and Batchelor, 2004).

The quantity of p,p′-DDE in treatment without Fe0 had no apparent change during the total 40days (Fig.3). The addition of Fe0 can decrease the amount of p,p′-DDE markedly, and the more amount of Fe0, the higher the percentage degradation of p,p′-DDE is. The p,p′-DDE in the treatment with the addition of 0.5% Fe0, 2% Fe0 and 5% Fe0 decreased by 45%, 50% and 55%, respectively.

The more amount of Fe0, the more amount of p,p′-DDD within 30 days, the p,p′-DDD in the treatment with the addition of 0.5% Fe0, 2% Fe0 and 5% Fe0 increased by 125%, 159% and 189%, respectively. However p,p′-DDD in treatment with 5% Fe0 did not increased after 30 days.

The concentrations of p,p′-DDT in the treatments with the addition of 0.5% , 2%, and 5% Fe0 decreased by 69%, 73% and 80%, respectively wihle concentrations of o,p′-DDT in the same treatments decreased by 80%, 88% and 96%, respectively, after 40 days' incubation. It is evident that p,p′-DDT and o,p′-DDT responded intensively to Feo and the more  Fe0 added, the higher  percentage  of p,p′-DDT and o,p′-DDTdegradated during the first 20days. The differences of decrease rate between different treatments were apparent. This could be due to the effect of zero-valent iron (Fe0), as many literatures have reported (Johnson et al., 1996; Chen et al., 2001; Dombek et al., 2001; Lee and Batchelor, 2004).
