[资源] 一个生物资源、生物能源、废水处理和环境微生物领域的博后位置

Post Doctoral Associate
Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering
College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences
University of Minnesota

Position:         The Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering, College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences is searching for one or two post-doctoral associates to work on research projects related to animal manure management and treatment technologies, and bioenergy production from renewable resources. The candidate(s) should have training and experience in wastewater treatment and environmental microbiology. Knowledge in fermentation to produce value-added products from renewable biomaterials such as agricultural wastewaters is highly desired. The projects that the incumbent may be tasked with include SBR treatment, biohydrogen and methane production, ammonia recovery from gases from animal manure using acid scrubbers, aeration, and solvents fermentation. An incomplete list of projects is presented in the “Project Description” section below.
The funding for the position(s) is from several sources including IREE, Rapid Agricultural Response Fund, and the National Research Initiative (NRI) competitive program. The initial appointment will be one year with potential to renew depending on performance and funding.
Project Description:         “Fermentation of liquid swine manure to produce methane and hydrogen”
Technical knowledge and scientific information is needed to improve the performance of                                 SBRs to co-ferment swine manure with other sugar rich agricultural wastewaters such as                                 sugar processing wastewaters to produce hydrogen and methane using a two-SBR system.
“A study on making L-lactic acid by Rhizopus oryzae using dairy manure”
Converting dairy manure into value-added products provides a potential alternative for its                         treatment and disposal. A viable process featuring low-cost culture media is desired                                 to enhance the economics of fermentative production of L-lactic acid - one of the most                                 useful organic acids utilized in pharmaceutical, food, and chemical industries.
“Wet scrubbers for the recovery of NH3 emission from animal feeding operations for                                 fertilizer”
Ammonia emission from animal production facilities is not only an air quality issue but                                 also a loss in fertilizer nitrogen. The project will develop an innovative tool to abate NH3                                 emission and produce nitrogen fertilizer using acid scrubbers. The approaches to be used                                 include modeling, designing, testing, demonstrating, and transferring the wet scrubber                                 technology.
Date Available:                Reviewing applications will be ongoing until positions are filled
Qualifications:                Required: Ph.D. in environmental, bioprocess, and biosystems engineering.
Preferred: Demonstrated experience/record in doing quality research and publishing         results in quality refereed journals.
Responsibilities:                will be responsible for research work at all stages including experimental design,                                 apparatus construction, executing experiments, compilation and evaluation of results,                                 record keeping and lab upkeep and safety.
Salary:                Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Job Location:                University of Minnesota Southern Research and Outreach Center in Waseca, Minnesota
How to apply:                 To apply for this position, please submit on line a cover letter stating your interest,         credentials, and research philosophy, together with a complete resume, through         http://www1.umn.edu/ohr/employment/index.html and search for requision #154493.
