Postdoc. opportunity in U.C. Merced

There are two immediate openings for postdoctoral research positions available in the laboratory of Prof. Jennifer Lu at the University of California at Merced (Website: https://eng.ucmerced.edu/jluresearchgroup).  

Position 1: Research projects involve creating functional nanoscale composites. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with recent PhD in Polymer Science or related fields. Intensive experience in polymer synthesis such as anionic polymerization is essential.  Hands-on experience and knowledge in macromolecule self-assembly is a plus.

Position 2:  The research project involves independent device-level synthesis of 1D nanostructures and novel device concept exploration. Highly motivated candidates with PhD training in electronic or electromechanical device fabrication and characterization are highly sought after. Preference will be given those who have in-depth experience in 1D nanomaterial synthesis using the chemical vapor deposition technique. Advanced understanding 1D nanomaterial physics is a plus.

Candidates who are self-motivated, rigorous and responsible with a track record showing the ability to do independent research work are encouraged to apply.  Projects are highly interdisciplinary. Appointees will have opportunities to work and interact with research groups in other universities, National Laboratories and industrial partner research laboratories. Occasional travel is required. Applicants should send a cover letter stating research interests and starting date, a current CV including peer-reviewed publications and three references to the attention of Jennifer Lu at the Email address below. 老师比较倾向于有机所，冶金所，复旦和交大的高分子或是化学的同学…… 其实学电子的学生也有相关的研究方向，尤其是光学

UC中最好的是伯克利分校

在公立大学中，UCBerkeley 位列第一

通常我们指的“公立三强”指的是：UCBerkeley（加大伯克利分校），UM（密歇根大学），UVA（弗吉尼亚大学）

英国的The Times Higher World University Rankings评伯克利加州大学为世界第二的大学，仅次排名第一的哈佛大学，领先许多知名大学如麻省理工学院、牛津大学、斯坦福大学等。

加州大学系统的档次可以这样划分：
第一档包括UC Berkeley，UCLA和UC San Diego；
第二档包括UC Davis，UC Irvine和UC Santa Babara，这六所都可以排在全美前五十名；
第三档包括UC Riverside，UC Santa Cruz和UC Merced。其中Merced校区刚开张两三年，还有一个UC San Francisco只有医学院，声誉很好，排名可居全美前十。

再看看加大系统中，亚裔的比例：
亚裔学生的比例高，一般可以达到30%-40%（加州的亚裔人口低于总人口的10%）。

亚裔比例最高的是尔湾加大（UC Irvine），将近60%，所以UCI又有一个外号叫”中国移民大学”（UCI，University of Chinese Immigrants)。
UCLA中亚裔也近半数，被称为“University of Chinese and Lots of Asians”。
不光是加大系统，在美国各大名校中的亚裔学生都偏高。

网上看过一篇文章，这样评论：加州的学生中间流传着有一种说法，如果你又聪明家里又有钱，那你应该上斯坦福或CalTech；如果你只聪明但没钱，就去Berkeley或UCLA；如果你不太聪明但有钱，你就去USC；不太聪明也没钱，你去其他加大各校；如果你又不聪明又没钱，那你只好去州大或社区学院好了。
