| Morphometrics of gastropod shells: In order to describe and discriminate ecophenotypes or species of Radix and Bellamya with the aid of shell characters the morphometric analyses will be conducted using frontal view images described by 5 landmarks and 19 sliding semi-landmarks. The landmarks (repeatability assessment) will be digitised using tpsDIG software (Rohlf 1998). Shape coordinates will be computed using generalised Procrustes (least squares) superimposition (GPA) ( in tpsRWA software. From the 24 GPA aligned landmarks and semi-landmarks the uniform (alfa = 0) and non-uniform (partial warps) components will be computed using thin-plate spline and used together for statistical comparisons of shape variation within and among populations. Shape variables (partial warps) and uniform shape components will be computed . Closeness of tangent shape space to the curved shape space will assessed by comparing Procrustes distances in the shape space to Euclidean distance in the tangent space. Shape variation and shape variables can be analysed using conventional multivariate statistical techniques. Discontinuities of shape variation among and within the samples (presence of more than one putative species) will be analysed and usefulness of the semi-landmark approach to identify potential taxonomic characters assessed. |
