In a study of the reactions of methylenemalononitriles, 1-ethoxyethylidenemalononitrile (Ⅰ) was found to react with hydrogen sulfide to give different products depending on the solvent used. When benzene was the solvent, 2-cyano-3-ethoxythiocrotonamide (Ⅱ) was the product. When ethyl alcohol was the solvent, 2-cyanothioacetamide (Ⅲ) was the product. This paper concerns the determination of the chemistry involved in the formation of Ⅱ and Ⅲ and a study of the reactions of Ⅱ and other 2-cyano-3- ethoxy-2-alkenthioamides. The structural assignment of Ⅱwas supported by spectral data and was confirmed by the identification of the compound as the product obtained by synthesis from triethyl orthoacetate and 2- cyanot hioacetamide. The structural assignment of Ⅲ was supported by spectral data and was confirmed by the identification of the compound as the product obtained by synthesis from malononitrile and hydrogen sulfide.[2] |
