【转帖】关于TAS岩石分类图解的问题

Dear colleague: Good to know of your work that uses or could use the TAS diagram for volcanic rock classification. It seems that most people are not strictly following the IUGS recommendations for using the TAS diagram. One basic requirement, among others, is to “correctly” subdivide the iron content into the two oxidation varieties (FeO and Fe2O3) and then adjust the major element data to 100% on an anhydrous basis. This is mostly true because Fe is generally measured as total iron (as Fe2O3t or FeOt). For enabling earth scientists to easily use the TAS diagram and to standardize the procedures involved, we wrote a computer program SINCLAS, about which we would like to draw your kind attention (see the reference by Verma et al., 2002). Furthermore, to standardize the CIPW norm computations also required by the IUGS scheme, especially for identifying alkaline and sub-alkaline magmas, we published a detailed step-by-step procedure (see Verma et al., 2003), which we fully incorporated into our computer program SINCLAS. Please examine the following two papers for your future work. If you have any difficulty in obtaining them or downloading SINCLAS, I will be glad to send them to you. Verma, S.
