Effecting factors of CPAM photo-initiation system were studied and property of copolymer was examined and its structure was characterized. Flocculating effect of CPAM on coal slurry was studied. The result shows it is available to synthesize CPAM by photo-initiation method. The optimal craft conditions are that the bulk concentration of monomer is 20%, mol ratio of DMDAAC to AM is 1: 3 ~ 1: 4, dosage of photo-initiator is 0.037% ~ 0.075% of monomer mass. Intrinsic viscosity number of synthesized CPAM is 750 mL/g, and the cation degree of synthesized CPAM is 12%. Flocculating effect of CPAM on coal slurry is superior to that of polyacrylamide, especially for the difficult setting coal slurry which is rich in fine fraction and kaolin.
