在1983年以前的相关英文书刊中，大概尚无agostie之词。它是英国M．L．H．格林(M．L．H．Green)教授据其与M．布鲁克哈特(M．Brookhart)教授对碳和氢的过渡金属键的研究与发现，于1983年提出的一个具有原创性思维的新词。
Agostic这个词来源于希腊词语意思是”toholdontooneself”-粘到自身.一般指的是配体上的C -H键与金属复合物的相互作用.这种相互作用接近地类似于一种氧化加成或还原消除反应的过渡态,也可以近似地描述成类似于烷烃或硅烷的σ-复合物或类似于H2 做为两个电子σ给予体的双氧复键。agostic bond 抓氢键烃基上的H原子能和金属原子M形成抓氢键（agostic bond）
