| The underground insect and the aboveground insect are isolated, but the plant was a medium that linked them to a system. In order to discuss the effects of underground pest on the aboveground pest, we used Vicia faba L. as that medium to study the effects of Bradysia odoriphaga Yang et Zhang damaging Vicia faba L.’root on the two kinds of color Acyrthosiphon pisum. The results showed that root feeding by B. odoriphaga larvae caused changes in the nutrition composition of faba, including dry weight, fresh weight ratio, soluble protein, soluble saccharide, trehalose and free amino acids. Development time of nymphals is prolonged by fed faba leaves, two kinds first instar was significantly prolonged, red third instar are significantly prolonged, but others were not different. The mortality rate of the pea aphids nymphs are increased, green nymphs were higher than the control at first and second instar stage , red nymphs were than control at second, third and fourth instar instar stage, and the mortality rate of second instar stage were significant higher than control. Daily offspring production was higher under control when compared to root feeding, and accumulated nymphs of 10 days per female also were significantly higher. Root feeding by B. odoriphaga larvae caused a significantly decrease in the net reproductive rate, intrinsic rate of increase, finite rate of increase, relative growth ratio, body length and weight, and the generation time was prolonged but not significant different. Conclusion:B. odoriphaga direct influence on the nutritional component of faba, and indirectly affect the growth and development of pea aphids. |

An underground pest may affect their overground allies through the damaged plants. Here, we used the Vicia faba L to study effects of underground root feeding by Bradysia odoriphaga Yang et Zhang on two types of overground color Acyrthosiphon pisum. Our results showed that B. odoriphaga larvae changed the nutrition composition of faba, including fresh to dry weight ratio, soluble protein and saccharide, trehalose, and free amino acids. After feeding of faba leaves from the damaged plants, Both red and green aphids showed a extended duration of subterranean nymphal stage which may be due to their significantly prolonged first instar. However, only the red type showed a prolonged period of third instar. Meanwhile, mortality rates appeared to be elevated on both types of aphids compared with their control groups. The green nymphs had a higher mortality rate on the first and second instar while the reds increased on the second, third, and forth instar. Further, both types of color aphids showed significantly decreases in daily offspring production, accumulated nymphs of 10 days per female, net reproductive rate, intrinsic rate of increase, finite rate of increase, relative growth ratio, body length and weight, as well as an increasing trend of their average generation time. Further, both types of color aphids showed trends to increase their average generation time and significant decreases in multiple aspects, such as daily offspring production, accumulated nymphs of 10 days per female, net reproductive rate, intrinsic rate of increase, finite rate of increase, relative growth ratio, body length and weight. Conclusion: The changes on the growth and development of pea aphids suggested an indirect negative effect of B. odoriphaga through the damaged faba plants. |
