Low-temperature hexagonal modification of NaYF4 having the gagarinite structure Sobolev, B. P.; Mineev, D. A.; Pashutin, V. P. Doklady Akademii Nauk SSSR (1963), 150(4), 791-4 CODEN: DANKAS; ISSN: 0002-3264. Unavailable. NaYF4 was synthesized in 2 ways: by hydrothermal recrystn. of melt at temperature below a ® b transition point, and by direct synthesis in hydrothermal conditions from NaF and Y2O3 mixture (Na:Y = 1:1). Both processes lasted 18 h. at 500¡ã. The product was identified by chem. and x-ray diffraction methods and found identical in both expts. It is isostructural with the lately discovered mineral gagarinite Na(YCa)F6, having hexagonal structure with crystal lattice parameters of a 5.96 and c 3.53 A. The crystallo-chem. anal. made earlier for gagarinite has shown that the most proper formula for NaYF4 is Na(Y1.5Na0.5)F6, analogous to Na(YCa)F6. Thermal anal. shows that transition of the low-temperature hexagonal modification to the high-temperature cubic one (b ® a) begins at 670¡ã. The reverse effect (a ® b) is much slower. It has been proved that the high-temperature modification has a fluorite structure. |
