https://www.amazon.com/product-r ... mp;showViewpoints=0 5.0 out of 5 stars An extraordinary Chinese novel; hard to find in English By Elton Welkeon July 22, 2017 Format: Paperback | Verified Purchase This extraordinary novel sold over three million copies in its original Chinese edition, titled "A Muslim's Funeral." The story spans three generations of a family engaged in the jade carving business. But it is so much more. If you liked The Good Earth" you will absolutely love "The Jade King." It might be described as an urban variation of Pearl Buck's rural, Nobel winning classic. It also provides rich insights into the lives of a surprisingly large number of Chinese Muslims who are embedded in Han culture. Why this book did not become an international best seller is a puzzle. The English translation is long out of print and hard to find. But it's worth every effort to locate a copy. Five Stars By Shuaib Manjraon June 7, 2015 Format: Paperback | Verified Purchase great story of the little know muslim community of china. a wonderful story that spans a few generations. |

https://cuhkccs_library.librarika.com/search/detail/95700 The book starts with a poor but talented jade craftsman surnamed Liang, who has but one regret in life-he has no son and heir to carry on the family business. One day, a venerable old Muslim on his way to Mecca and accompanied by his young disciple appears at Liang's door to ask for sustenance. Entranced by Liang's exquisite jade work and his two beautiful daughters, the disciple begs to be allowed to stay. The fate of the Liang family is changed forever. It tells the story of three generations in a Chinese Muslim family thtough the turbulent years the Japanese Invasion to the present day. The theme of this tragic novel are the four sad love stories of father, son, aunt and daughter, all being victims of prejudice and fate. - from Amzon |
