Abstract: Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) deliver packets through short-range wireless communications technology. The characters of this technology carry out unnegligible randomicity about the links of WSNs. This randomicity usually leads to dropping packets, which will reduce the performance of routing in WSNs. In order to resolve this problem, the efficiency of transmission under lossy links is researched and the relationship of packets transmitting efficiency, PRR and the distance of hops under a chain topology are figured out. Based on this relationship, a new energy efficient forwarding strategy based on links effeciency is proposed. The simulate results show that this forwarding strategy has good energy efficiency and well-adaptability in lossy links.
