Batch experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of temperature, contact time, initial dye concentration, pH and adsorbent dose. Adsorption mechanism of acid violet 48 onto the sludge-straw adsorbent had been discussed preliminarily on the basis of different kinetics and adsorption isotherm models. The results showed that the pseudo-second order adsorption mechanism was predominant. The maximum adsorption capacity obtained from Langmuir model was 833.33 mg/g at 308 K.
