Volume I: Focusing on the applications of heterocycles to control local peptide backbone geometry, Volume I covers a series of methods for restricting motion about the f, c, and o dihedral angles in the sequence. In particular, heterocycles contained within a single amino acid or dipeptide motif are examined. For example, in light of the importance of the natural amino acid proline in peptide folding and function, three chapters of Volume I are dedicated to such modified prolines that alter ring puckering and backbone dihedral angles by way of electronic, steric, and structural interactions. Volume II: The second volume of this treatise on heterocycles in peptide mimicry focuses primarily on the replication of the form and function of larger structures. In contrast to Volume I, which examined primarily local constraints and the consequences of heterocyclic amino acids, dipeptides, and five-membered ring systems on global peptide geometry and biological activity, Volume II probes the syntheses and applications of mimics of helices, sheets, and larger folded motifs. In addition, Volume II examines the preparation and applications of macrocyclic peptides, particularly in the areas of chemical biology and medicinal chemistry, as well as the post-translational modification of peptide and protein structures with heterocycles. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
