Helmholtz Centre: Reserch Centre Jülich – (www.fz-juelich.de/portal/home) Research Field: Computer Science; High-Performance Computing; Parallel Programming Research Project: Scalable Performance Analysis Tools for Parallel Applications Position: Postdoc (24 months) Department/Supervising scientist: Juelich Supercomputing Centre / Prof. Dr. Felix Wolf Research Area: The successful applicant is expected to conduct research & development in the Scalasca project: To satisfy their growing demand for computing power, numerical simulations are being required to harness higher degrees of parallelism available on systems such as the IBM Blue Gene/P at the Juelich Supercomputing Centre. However, writing parallel codes that run efficiently on large numbers of processors is extraordinarily challenging and requires adequate tool support for performance analysis. The Scalasca software is an open-source toolset that can be used to analyze the performance behavior of parallel applications and to identify opportunities for optimization. A distinctive feature is the ability to identify wait states that occur, for example, as a result of unevenly distributed workloads. To meet the scalability requirements imposed by tens of thousands of processors, Scalasca is a parallel program in its own right.
