ÔÚɳÌØ°¢À²® I¡¯m looking for 4 good postdocs to join my new lab at KAUST (www.kaust.edu.sa), 2 for the wet lab component and 2 for the computational genomics and bioinformatics component. The 4 postdocs will choose to work with me in one of these two major projects, here really brief descriptions: Project 1: Red Sea Coral¡¯s Genomes sequencing project (in collaboration with the Red Sea Science and Engineering Research Center www.kaust.edu.sa/research/center-red-sea.aspx). The Red Sea ecosystem is populated by species that have evolved to cope with this high salinity and thus represent a highly specific ecosystem, with many unique coral species. Some of these species may contain novel antibiotics and other biochemicals that await discovery and potentially could represent possible new therapeutic compounds. Not only would this give insight into the genome structure of unique coral species including the first comparative genomics analysis but it will almost certainly lead to the identification of novel genes. In particular we aim to the identification of toxins and other bioactive molecules (such as antimicrobial peptides) produced by coral unique to the Red Sea ecosystem with potential industrial and medical use. Project 2: Elucidating Macrophages Transcription Regulatory Networks in disease contexts (in collaboration with David Hume, Matt Sweet et al.). In this project we will concentrate on reconstructing transcription regulatory networks underline macrophages activation in disease contexts with particular focus on diabetic nephropathy and also on the simultaneous sequencing of the macrophage and pathogen transcriptomes (this is Matt¡¯s idea). As been existentially shown that macrophages play a central role in the mechanisms of this diseases and a better understanding of the transcription regulation underline macrophages activation in disease context will help to design new therapeutic strategies. Using Ultra-high throughput DNA and RNA sequencing we will elucidate the gene expression and transcript diversity, non-coding regulatory RNA (e.g. microRNAs), protein-DNA binding (ChIP-seq) and RNA abundance (RNA-seq) in several cellular conditions. The sequencing data will be integrated with other genome-wide datasets such as protein-protein interaction networks and then computationally analyzed with the aim to infer conditions or diseases specific sub-networks that can better elucidate the macrophages behaviors during diseases progression. I know that Saudi Arabia can be a bit challenging for everyone but the compensations are attractive, I think! 1) The appointment period is up to 3 years. 2) The salary is up to 90,000 USD per year and TAX FREE! 3) Each postdoc and family will receive a FREE house with ALL the utilities PAID, one round-trip airline ticket per year to visit home country also for his/her spouse & children, relocation, medical, dental etc. In top of these personal benefits the university offer amazing genomics facilities, for example my lab has 6 Solexa and two (2) 454 sequencing apparatus, we will have also access to 6 mass spectrometers, a supercomputer etc. If you know any suitable candidates including someone that will graduate soon, please refer them to me at: timothy.ravasi@kaust.edu.sa.
