PhD positions Available in Electrical Machines and Drives/Power Electronics/Power Systems/Renewable Energy

Description:

2 or 3 PhD positions with graduate research assistantships are available in Electrical Machines and Drives/Power Electronics/Power Systems/Renewable Energy. Graduate research assistantships include monthly stipends and full tuition waivers. Prospective students are expected to work in Laboratory of Secure and Renewable Energy Systems with Dr. Ayman El-Refaie, starting from the Spring/Fall of 2018.

Dr. El-Refaie is a professor and Thomas and Suzanne M. Werner Endowed Chair in Secure and Sustainable Energy in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, U.S.A.

Dr. El-Refaie received his M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2002 and 2005, respectively. He is the winner of “2009 Forward Under Forty” award for outstanding University of Wisconsin Alumni under 40 (among 12 selected out of 163 nominees). From Nov. 2005 - Dec. 2016, he worked as a principal engineer and project leader at General Electric Global Research Center, Niskayuna, NY, and is the Winner of 2011 Hull Award (Highest individual award for early career researchers at GE Global Research Center). In January 2017, Dr. El-Refaie joined Marquette University.

Dr. El-Refaie is a Fellow of IEEE, serves as Chair/ Co-Chair for several IEEE conferences, and is the winner of IEEE Industry Applications Society “Andrew W. Smith Outstanding Young Member Award 2009”. He has published more than 90 Journal and Conference Papers, including one paper winning “IEEE IAS Electrical Machines Committee (EMC) Paper Award (First Prize 2013)”, and one paper winning “International Conference of Electrical Machines (ICEM) 2014 Brian J. Chalmers Best Paper Award”. Dr. El-Refaie holds 32 issued US patents as well as a few international patents with several others pending. Students with M.S. or B.S. degrees with a strong academic background in Power Electronics/Electric Machines/ Power Systems/Renewable Energy are encouraged to apply.
