This paper describes a novel method for chemical modification of Phyllostachys pubescens powder to prepare a kind of effective chromium ion adsorbent, which had nanomaterial equally dispersed and loaded in adsorbent pore inner space to afford reductive-oxidative double effects for some metal ions so that the novel modified adsorbent has excellent adsorbability to Cr(III) and Cr(VI) ions.

In this paper, a new surface modification method was reported for the preparation of activated carbon derived from Phyllostachys pubescens as an effective adsorbent for the removal of chromium. The micro and nano materials were evenly  dispersed and loaded into the internal surface of cavities of the adsorbent, which provided both the reductive and oxidative-reductive properties. The composite showed an excellent adsorption efficacy for Cr (III) and Cr (VI).

This paper introduces a new kind of  chemical modification to prepare Phyllostachys pubescens powder as an effective adsorbent for chromium ion. The adsorbent abtained ion-reductive and reductive-oxidative properties by the dispersing and loading of nanomaterial in its inner space and therefore performed perfect adsorption to Cr(III) and Cr(VI) ions.
