上转换过程，也是反斯托克斯(Stokes)过程，是指逐步或连续吸收两个或多个低频率的光子进而发射一个高频率光子的过程。由于独特的非线性发光过程，稀土（RE）掺杂的上转换纳米荧光材料（UCNPs）目前有着广大的应用前景，比如在生物荧光成像、传感、红外光热治疗、红外探测、防伪、指纹识别和太阳能电池等领域。

The upper-conversion process is also an anti-Stockes process, which means a process by which 2 or more photons of lower frequency are step-wise or continuously absorbed, and then a photon of higher frequency is emitted. Due to its unique non-linear light emission property, rare earth (RE) doped upper-conversion fluorescence nanomaterial (nanoparticle, 如果用UCNP) has a broad application, such as biofluorescence imaging, sensing, infrared hypothermia therapy, infrared detection, anti-counterfeiting technology, fingerprint recognition and solar cells, etc.
