Although up-to-date corrections and statistical presentation of radiocarbon ages are used, the interpretation of the results have to be clarified: e.g. in the abstract, two different settings are mentioned with exactly the same age; does it mean that the upper one is a direct reworked piece of the lower one ??

(Samples of charred organic material were obtained from the top of the faulted sediments and the base of the unfaulted sediments, and yielded a calibrated 2σ radiocarbon age of A.D. 1489±82. Combined with the historical earthquake record, the MRE is dated at A.D.1488. )

问题是不清楚：does it mean that the upper one is a direct reworked piece of the lower one ??（upper one 和lower one 指的是哪个）

因为如你在文中所说，“从断错沉积层的顶部和未断错层的底部获得了炭质样品，2σ校准年龄在A.D. 1489±82，结合历史记载，将最新的地震的时间确定在A.D.1488.”一个断错沉积层的顶部的样品和一个未断错层的底部的样品，所测得的年龄竟然一样，故审稿人怀疑你们可能是误？将底部样品重做了一次而把它当作是顶部样品了，这个upper one 就是断错沉积层的顶部的样品，而 lower one 就是未断错层的底部的样品。希望对你有帮助。
