[交流] Ph.D Positions in MEMS at the University of Akron

The Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) Laboratory at the University of Akron has immediate openings for Ph.D. study in mechanical engineering (https://gozips.uakron.edu/~jzhe/research.html ), beginning at Fall 2017. MEMS Lab is currently conducting research on micro and nanoscale biosensors, lab-on-a-chip devices, sensors for rotary machinery, machine health monitoring, rehabilitation devices, and other smart materials and structures. MEMS Lab is well funded by federal funding including National Science Foundation, NASA and Navy, etc. The lab has strong connections with industries nationwide. Students graduated from our lab all found positions in prestigious companies including IBM, Intel, Johnson and Johnson, NASA, Honda, Panasonic, Hitachi, B&W etc.

Currently there are four Ph.D. students and one PostDoc researcher working on different research projects. With new federal and industry funding, we are now offering two fully funded RA positions (including stipend and tuition) beginning as soon as in June 2017. Typically, students with a master degree will finish Ph.D. study in the MEMS lab in four years. The Akron/Cleveland area is the center of Ohio’s health care, automobile and aerospace and polymer industries, which have strong needs in sensors and smart devices. Thus students have abundant opportunities for employment as well as intern and fellowship positions.
