High Strength 6xxx Series AluminiumAlloy Sheet for Automotive Structures
The demand for high strength aluminiumautomotive sheet is increasing for structural
applications such as A and B pillars, chassis, frames and crash systems. Since these
applications require higher specific strengths than body sheet, more highly alloyed 6xxx
series Al-Mg-Si(-Cu) alloys have been identified as offering an attractive combination of
properties. Through a combination of experimental and modellingwork, this project will focus
on alloy and process design to achieve both high strength and adequate formability.

Funding is available for a suitably qualified candidate (i.e. first class honoursequivalence)
