2016 - 09 - 02 New month. New month stands for nothing but 30 days closer to my application. I'm getting nervous, for my two major works are still in preparation, and it seems I'm only able to submit one before application. Practically, the committee and referee would know nothing about what I've done to the other projects, which cost me even more time to think and calculate. Besides, I shifted my research focus from theoretical condensed matter & AMO physics to experimental AMO physics. This would extremely hinder me from getting admitted by high-level university/institution. Based on my analysis, if I focus on theoretical physics, I have about 25% chance to enter a good university, but considering I have already done this shift, my probability drop dramatically to a unknown number. But ultracold atom experiment is actually what I'm looking forward to do in the future, so I would not regret to do this. For the next week, I will visit Princeton EE professor J-T on Monday, and therefore I have to prepare something to discuss on Sunday. His previous work is actually a combination of nano photonics, quantum optics and ultracold atoms, where the atom physics is dominant. I hope our conversation would not be embarrassing, for this is seemingly one of the best place where I still have chance to be offered. My summer project is about to end. For the next 3 weeks, I will write some bash codes to drive a translation stage. It's a tough and less physics work, and it is only for a good recommendation. I'm to pragmatic, but who can stop being a utilitarianism at this case? |
