The general concept in this approach lies in the fact that the hydrogen-bond interactions between carboxyl groups of PMBA and water, as well as the hydrophobic property of the PMBA backbone, induce the aggregation of PMBA in organic solvents, and leads to amplification of fluorescence quenching.
