It is non–toxic, biodegradable,biocompatible, and acts as a bioadhesive with otherwise unstablebiomolecules – making it a valuable component in the formulation ofbiopharmaceutical drugs. Chitosan–Based Systems for Biopharmaceuticals provides anextensive overview of the application of chitosan and itsderivatives in the development and optimisation ofbiopharmaceuticals. Part IIIdiscusses specific applications of chitosan and its derivatives forbiopharmaceutical use. Finally, Part IV presents diverse viewpointson different issues such as regulatory, manufacturing andtoxicological requirements of chitosan and its derivatives relatedto the development of biopharmaceutical products, as well as theirpatent status, and clinical application and potential.
