Open phase fault is one of major causes for asynchronous motor damage. After loss of phase, rotor bars and stator windings of motor are subjected to increased temperature, which influences the serving life of motor. In this paper, we made reasonable assumption of temperature field model, defined boundary conditions of temperature field, proposed computational formula of main heat resource of asynchronous motor, built equivalent thermal model of stator winding, calculated heat transfer coefficient of each part of motor, and solved full-model heat transfer problems. In addition, we established 3D entity model and phase-loss condition model of squirrel-cage type asynchronous motor, and calculated static temperature field distributions upon rated operating condition or phase loss at inlet end, respectively. Temperature variations of all windings after phase loss were analyzed in this paper, which provides theoretical basis for motor fault diagnosis according to temperature field variations.
