Ph.D. positions at City university of Hong Kong (香港城市大學)
The Multiscale Material Research Group at City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is seeking some outstanding candidates for several open Ph.D. positions. Special emphasis is placed on recruiting talented, self-motivated candidates with a solid background in mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science and engineering, and/or computer science.
Open positions:
The successful candidate(s) will apply atomistic simulations to investigate physical and chemical properties of molecular systems and crystalline materials. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Quantum computing simulations on small molecule to understand fundamental interactions,
• Defect formation and diffusion in gate dielectric materials and quantum materials, and,
• Large scale system simulations by using linear scaling algorithm.

Required qualifications:
For consideration, applicants should possess the following qualifications or attributes:
• Previous experience ab initio software, such as VASP, ABINIT, SIESTA, Quantum Espresso; experience in coding (C++, Fortran, or Python) is a plus,
• Master’s degree from a reputable university in a related thematic, mathematics, physics, materials science, or chemistry is preferred, while exceptional bachelor’s degree holders are also welcome,
• English skills: IELTS>6.5, or TOEFL>79, or CET-6>490. CET-6 is acceptable, however, certain conditions may apply to different schemes. So, CET-6 is not recommended if you have IELTS or TOEFL scores.
• An interest in pursuing a research career,
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team,
• An interest in working in a fast-paced research environment.
Applicants with relevant experience will be given special preference. The successful candidates will be expected to take personal initiative to structure tasks to meet project goals, network and communicate with other partners involved in the project, author high-impact publications, and report results at international conferences. Research assistant with HKD 15900/month is supported. The positions are funded for a period of 4 years.
