The mobility of high-angle grain boundaries is typically higher than that of low-angle grain boundaries. This is because as the distance between dislocations becomes smaller than a critical value, grain boundaries migrate via diffusion of atoms across the boundary. In contrast, if dislocations are distant from one another, the grain boundaries migrate at a relatively low velocity that is proportional to the dislocation mobility.
