One for the Books IN 2001 MY HUSBAND BRIAN and I travelled to South Africa to see family and tour around. We were travelling through the Karoo and stopped in the town of Graaff-Reinett. I headed into a bookshop that had three rooms of new and second-hand books. While browsing, I found two copies of Wheatlands by Margery Parkes. Knowing that the Wheatlands farm was near our old family farm, I grabbed a copy. I received the biggest shock when I opened the front cover and my brother John’s signature was staring up at me. While visiting him the next day, I showed him the book and he said, “Yes, I have one as well”. Not realising his book was missing, he received an even bigger surprise when he saw his name. My brother lived about 300km from the bookshop and has no idea how his book turned up there. Not to mention the chances of me finding the book among thousands of others. 这的确也太碰巧了！ |
