攻博Personal Statement求修改 已有1人参与

本人申请学校要求提交Personal Statement材料，要求：A short personal statement or essay on the desired topic reflecting your own ideas and perception 现在已经写好，但是感觉自身英语和表达会有些问题，特来求助虫友，希望大家能多提些意见和建议，谢谢大家！！ 如下： Personal Statement Applicant:XXX With intense interest in soft materials, I, a third year postgraduate student from China UniversityXXX, would like to scale higher intellectual heights by taking PhD program in Advanced Soft Matter Group of XXX University. Since I was an undergraduate, I have participated in many mathematics modeling contests. I enjoy the process of seeking all kinds of solutions to tackle difficult problems. This experience inspired me to do scientific research in the future, where there is something new to discover and needed me to do further study and think. When I joined the nonlinear dynamics of chemistry lab in my first year of postgraduate, I started to do the research of BZ reaction. With my participation, my group has published a paper investigating the photosensitive BZ oscillator. However, though reading lots of literatures of different fields and further experiments, I found I was more interested in design and synthesis of materials than BZ reaction. I set up the organic synthesis surroundings without anyone done this area in my lab. Although this process was very hard, I achieved it finally and succeeded in guiding two undergraduates to finish their Bachelor’s degree thesis. Experiences of those researches built me skills of literature retrieval, experiment design and operation, taught me to create idea independently and draw up experimental scheme reasonably. I first touched Dr. XXX’s research, biological self-assembly with the construction of soft molecular materials, in a seminar of my group one month ago. Someone introduced Dr. XXX’s work published in Science, which really impressed me. After reading his other publications in Angew. Chem and Nature Chem about catalytic control over hydrogel, I feel catalyst-assisted self-assembly is very interesting and novel. Self-assembly also is a promising issue in chemical area, and there are a lot exploration space worthwhile to explore. In addition, during my postgraduate study, I have been working on soft material, with synthesis of copolymer gel of NIPAAm and design of photosensitive of hydrogel as a biomimetic material. The experience about hydrogel can help me do further study and research in Dr. XXX’s group, and it would be a good chance for me to research soft material from a new perspective. I sincerely hope I could get the opportunity to fulfill my objective and get the opportunity to study in your University. |
