Description In view of the drastic increase in the number of networked devices and mobile data traffic volume, the successful Ph.D. candidate is expected to make a significant contribution in one of the following areas: software-defined wireless networks heterogeneous mobile systems millimetre-wave networks access and networking techniques for IoT wireless security and privacy The student will address key challenges and design practical solutions, combining analytical modelling and experimentation. Collaboration with academic and industry partners through national/international research projects is expected. The successful applicant will join the Ph.D. programme full-time for a total period of 36 months (3 years). Candidate Profile Interested applicants should: Hold an honours degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields Have a solid background in computer networks, Possess very good programming and scripting skills Prove highly motivated to tackle challenging research problems Demonstrate excellent level of spoken and written English Possess good interpersonal skills and show willingness to work as part of a team Familiarity with embedded systems, kernel programming, or SDR/FPGA development is a plus. The subject of the email should read “Ph.D. in Future Mobile Networks”. Application deadline: Friday, 8th January 2016. Stipend The position and will be fully funded for a duration of 3 years. The financial support will cover tuition fees and a stipend of ￡14,057 (tax free), following the standard EPSRC studentship rate. Informatics is one of seven schools in the College of Science and Engineering, at the University of Edinburgh. The results of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) have confirmed Edinburgh's position as the largest and best Informatics research centre in the UK. The various institutes in The School of Informatics have come together and are now housed under one roof in the new ￡40 million Informatics Forum Building on Crichton Street. |
